Poker, Bridge and Blackjack - Similarities and Differences
While
poker and bridge
are different in many ways, they are both games that seem relatively
easy to learn, but take a lifetime to master.
Blackjack, on the other hand, is a little different. It’s easy to learn the
basic blackjack strategy, but that doesn’t make you a winning player since the
house has an edge on all bets you make. However, if you learn to take advantage
of counting cards you can beat the house.
The rules are simple in all these games, and if you partake in free online games while studying the rules, you’ll learn the rules in no time. Mastering them, however, is a whole other story.
Poker, bridge and card-counting blackjack players are
always learning new strategies and ideas that they hope can improve their game.
Here are some common mistakes that are similar in all three types of games.
In poker, it’s important to research your competition before starting to play.
Jumping into a game without assessing the tendencies of your opposition reduces
some of your edge. In Bridge, your opponents’ tendencies are not as important as
understanding your partner. If you and your partner do not have a clear
understanding of what, why and how you will bid, your opponents may have you at
a loss. In blackjack, you must raise the stakes as soon as the deck contains
favorable, i.e. high, cards. Consequently you must study all the exposed cards
to know when it is time to put in the big bets. Unfortunately though, casinos
don’t really like card counters, it’s not illegal, but the staff can always
throw you out.
